(CHICAGO) There was a contentious City Council Aviation Committee meeting over who gets the contracts for the $8.5 billion O’Hare Airport expansion.
Black and brown aldermen have been demanding oversight of minority and women owned business set-asides for O’Hare expansion contracts.
Latino Caucus Chairman Alderman Gil Villegas told the committee that money for the expansion could be blocked with a City Council order if the set-asides are not honored, “As we see barriers or roadblocks or things that are not working, we could introduce legislature or we could take away the funding source to go as extreme as that.”
So the Aviation Committee approved an O’Hare Oversight Working Group to meet quarterly.
