(SPRINGFIELD,IL) –– The Democratic controlled state senate has voted to adopt a resolution urging the governor not to comply with the request of President Donald Trump to send national guard troops to the U.S. – Mexico border. The vote Thursday was 33-22.
The resolution was sponsored by State Sen. Martin Sandoval (D-Chicago). Gov. Bruce Rauner on Wednesday said he would deploy troops if asked to do so by Trump. Sandoval says the troops are needed in Illinois.
Arizona, New Mexico and Texas have pledged troops with California pledging troops so long as they are not used to tackle immigration issues.
