(CHICAGO) Alderman Ed Burke finally stopped for City Hall reporters today and he claimed not to be worried about getting re-elected despite his brother’s recent defeat.
Progressive Hispanics knocked off State Representative Dan Burke in the March 20th Primary. They’re expected to come after Alderman Burke in February’s city elections. So, is Burke, the city council’s longest-serving alderman planning to run for re-election?, who responded, “Why would you wonder?”
Cameron: “Because the progressives came after your brother and not even you could save him.”
Burke: “He carried my 14th ward, not enough to overcome the other areas but fortunately the people in the 14th ward did vote for him.”
Cameron: “So you don’t have any worry about re-election from the same progressives?”
Burke: “No.”
But with the primary defeat of Assessor Joe Berrios, Burke says he’s backing County Board President Toni Preckwinkle to be the new chair of the Cook County Democratic Central Committee.
