(CHICAGO) The mayoral election is nine months away, but Mayor Emanuel is already way out in front of his challengers when it comes to money.
The folks over at the Campaign for Political Reform have been keeping tabs on funding-raising in the campaign for mayor.
They’ve found that Mayor Emanuel already has 18 times more money than all of his challengers combined! $4.7M and counting.
Back in 2010, Emanuel did promise to limit his fundraising in one way that sounds like reform, “I’m saying right now I will not take money from people who lobby city government.”
But he’s still way out in front in the fund-raising game and even Paul Vallas, the challenger with perhaps the broadest experience who’s expected to officially announce Wednesday, says he can’t compete with Rahm’s mega-donors. The challengers hope to compete by bashing Rahm and promoting supposedly better ideas.
