(CHICAGO) Talking up re-naming Balbo for African-American civil rights icon Ida B. Wells is African-American alderman and personal friend of Barack and Michelle Obama Ald Sophia King who said, “Currently there is no street in the downtown area that is named for a woman or a person of color.”
Meanwhile, downtown Ald Brendan Reilly says it’s only fitting that Balbo be replaced, noting “Balbo was a member of the Facist Party in Italy and he was a member of Mussolini’s air force and certainly is not someone who reflects all the good works that Chicago’s Italian-Americans have done over the years.”
We already have a Wells Street in Chicago, but the aldermen say this problem will be overcome by calling this Ida B Well Drive.
