(SPRINGFIELD) Tuesday afternoon, Governor Bruce Rauner won a battle in the legislature.

Democrats had passed a bill to give the Attorney General new power to regulate the rights of workers. Rauner vetoed the bill.

So, Democrats overrode his veto in the state senate and now tried to override him in the House.

During debate, even Rauner’s primary challenger Jeanne Ives sided with the governor, saying “This bill is nothing more than the union harassment squad embedding itself in the attorney general’s office.

But Democrat Jay Hoffman pleaded for an override, “To say that we don’t care about job growth is absolutely wrong. All we care about is making sure that when we create jobs that we don’t screw the worker!”

But when the roll was called, Democrats fell four votes short, giving Rauner a rare legislative win.
