(CHICAGO) In the campaign for mayor, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has unveiled an expanded plan to provide pre-kindergarten classes in Chicago.
Emanuel calls it universal pre-k, but it’s phased-in so that it wouldn’t be universal unless you re-elect him.
The staging of the announcement was arranged to make it look more dramatic. He sat with panelists in big chairs at Truman College in front of a big video screen.
The mayor was putting the most expansive face on the promise, “When we add a full-day pre-k for all children, our kids are gonna get three-and-a-half more years of classroom time than they got before.”
While the mayor was accentuating the positive, the Chicago Teachers Union released a social media video denouncing the mayor for CPS corruption and school closings.
