(CHICAGO) At City Hall, The Collaborative for Community Wellness is proposing a solution to Chicago’s street violence problem.
More mental health counseling in high crime areas is the proposal.
Here’s how City Council Health Committee Chairman Ald George Cardenas says it would help, “It could be that they’re being bullied. It could be that they’re traumatized by violence. It could be that they could have financial issues. They don’t know who to tell. They don’t know who to talk to and it’s weighing down on them. People break. It happens. It could be that these kids haven’t had any parentlng, haven’t had someone to talk to, a mentor, a mom, a dad, to walk thru some of the issues when they’re a teen.”
He adds it takes professionals on the ground to persuade them to get help.
