(CHICAGO) Automakers improve quality to a record level in an annual survey that looks at the number of problems experienced within the first 90 days of ownership. Automakers started to clear up bugs with infotainment systems.
The annual survey by J.D. Power finds that buyers reported a record-low 93 problems per 100 vehicles during the first three months of ownership four problems fewer than last year.
The survey also found that Korean brands Genesis, Kia and Hyundai claimed the top three spots for the first time in new vehicle quality. Porsche and Ford rounded out the top five. The lowest-ranking brands were Land Rover, Jaguar and Volvo.
James Bell…Kia’s Director of Communications…tells Drive Chicago on WLS, “I think it really comes down to the fact that Kia vehicles really hit on three hot points: Number one, our design is very engaging. Secondly, from a durability and reliability perspective it fires up every time, it turns, it stops, it does everything the car is supposed to do but I think the part that really stands out is the infotainment or the onboard electronics. At Kia we integrate that high tech technology but do it in a way that is very simple to use,” said Bell.
