(CHICAGO) It hasn’t been a great week for Democrats, but Mayor Emanuel is at least laughing about it.
On the day after two setbacks in the Supreme Court – Trump’s travel ban getting upheld and Trump getting another supreme court appointment – Rahm was at an otherwise low-key housing forum joking about seceding from the union.
“Right now, after the last 48 hours,” mused Emanuel, “I’d like to pull out of this one-nation, one-state!
Moderator: “We probably don’t have that option!”
Rahm: “I dunno! I’m willing to challenge you on that! Who here is in favor of independence? A show of hands, ok?”
Moderator: “The State of Chicago?”
Rahm: “No, I’m going to Toronto!”
Rahm likes to say elections have consequences but this time he was laughing about it.
