(CHICAGO) In the race for governor, one of the candidates for mayor – Willie Wilson – has put Governor Bruce Rauner on the spot.
Willie Wilson likes to give away money to the poor. He’s been doing it for years and Gov Rauner was in the same south side church when he was handing it out in the form of cash on Sunday.
On Monday, Rauner acknowleged he gave Wilson’s foundation $100,000 to help poor people pay their property taxes, but not the way Wilson was doing it,
“I think the idea of handing out money if you’re a candidate is outrageous. It should not happen.”
The optics of all this are terrible, but so far, no one’s saying it’s illegal so long as the motive was philanthropic.
