(CHICAGO) Mayor Rahm Emanuel is upping his defense of Uber and Lyft as a couple of aldermen want to clamp down on them.
Aldermen Burke and Beale want to limit the number of ride share cars in the city and guarantee the drivers a minimum wage. New York City has done this. Rahm doesn’t want to.
Speaking in an under-served community, the mayor said ride-share competition has helped poor people, “This neighborhood? You couldn’t find a taxi. They wouldn’t pick up and drop off. And if it wasn’t for Lyft, Uber and the other ride-shares, this’d be a desert as it relates to the taxi industry.”
Typically, in Chicago, if a mayor’s against something, it usually doesn’t happen.
