(CHICAGO) Mayor Emanuel’s surprise decision not to run for a third term invites possible new names to the contest which already has more than a dozen candidates.
Leading declared candidates are wondering whether the special interests with the big money will get behind a big new name like they got behind Rahm two terms ago.
Names that come to mind are Barack Obama’s first friend Valerie Jarrett and Speaker Madigan’s daughter Lisa Madigan.
But candidate Paul Vallas has a warning about that, “If they didn’t have enough guts to get into the race when Rahm Emanuel was still running, what makes you think that somebody who suddenly gets in the race is gonna have the guts to make the tough decisions to move this city forward?”
Vallas has the broadest experience among the candidates and he’s counting on that to make him a winner.
