The newest Supreme Court justice spent his first day on the job Tuesday, with Brett Kavanaugh hearing his first arguments with the nation’s highest court.
Kavanaugh sat at the right end of the bench, as is traditional for the Court’s newest member. The man he replaced, retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, was in attendance, while a group of protesters gathered outside.
Kavanaugh’s first case involves “three strikes” sentencing laws for people who commit gun crimes.
