(CHICAGO) Toni Preckwinkle unveils her 2019 Cook County budget proposal this afternoon (Wednesday afternoon).
It’s an election years budget. Not just one election year but two politically.
That’s because she’s up for re-election as county board president November 6th and running for mayor on February 26th, next year.
So this county budget is expected to be harmless.
Her tax hikes are in the past: reinstating the Stroger sales tax hike after repealing it and her pop tax only to see it repealed.
Two years ago she was breaking a county board tie for the pop tax, “Raising revenue is never my first choice. However, my fundamental responsibility as president is to present a balanced budget that supports our critical services.”
And breaking that tie got her the nickname Toni the Taxer, which will be a big issue in her upcoming race for mayor.
