If the Democrats take the House in the midterm elections, they might start thinking about impeachment proceedings. But Senate leader Mitch McConnell says that plan would backfire.
McConnell says if Democrats chose to launch investigations into Trump’s tax returns or business dealings, it would “help the President get re-elected”.
McConnell says Republicans learned that lesson when they launched impeachment proceedings against Bill Clinton in 1998. He says Republicans suffered in that year’s midterms because voters ‘felt sympathy’ for Clinton.
