While early voting expands, mail-in voting biggest surprise

(CHICAGO)  Election officials across the Chicago area are making it easier to vote early beginning today and there’s one surprising new development in early voting so far.

Dozens of new early voting sites are open now and will be operating until the day before the November 6th election.

At the Chicago Board of Elections, Jim Allen tells WLS the pace of mail-in voting is the biggest surprise so far, “We’re gonna see more people use vote by mail than we did in World War II. We’ve been looking closely at the model in Colorado where they simply mail everybody their ballot ahead of the election and 90% of the ballots are cast in secure drop boxes in everybody’s neighborhood.”

Nonetheless, turnout for this election is still expected to be under 60%.
