(CHICAGO) At City Hall, another controversial big expense has been revealed.
Overtime racked up by the police department gets most of the attention, but it’s now running more than $38M in the fire dept because of attrition.
In city budget hearings, Ald Nick Sposato got an interesting fact about this out of Interim Fire Commissioner Richard Ford who earns $203,000 a year.
Sposato: “I’m gonna ask you a personal question, but it’s public information. How many officers, battalion chiefs, captains, lieutenants, whatever, how many individuals would you say made more than you last year?
Ford: “Fifty-six.”
Sposato: “Hopefully we get that under control.”
Ford: “Yes sir.”
Also new at the Fire Department is a plan to provide lactation rooms in the fire houses where female employees can breast feed their babies.
