(CHICAGO) In the upcoming city elections, retiring Alderman Ameya Pawar has announced his candidacy for City Treasurer.
Ald. Pawar is keeping his promise to limit himself to two terms and now wants to be a City Treasurer who would invest city funds in social justice.
He says this means continuing investments in affordable housing, infrastructure and small businesses like day care, “It’s time to go big on this because we have billions of dollars that the treasurer’s office manages and in partnership with the next mayor and city council, we can get this done.”
Another of Pawar’s progressive ideas is reduce the fees city hall pays to big banks to manage its investments by creating a Public Bank.
