48 – 0: City Council votes in favor Obama Presidential center.

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) At today’s City Council meeting, the aldermen have given final and unanimous city approval to the Obama Presidential Center.

It was a real nail-biter, 48-nothing for the final Obama Center arrangements for things like land use and roads.

Up on the mayor’s rostrum, Rahm Emanuel was sounding greatly relieved, “It’s been a long journey! I got a little older in that process. (laughs) I would like to read a letter from President Obama on this occasion. Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder or more excited to bring the center to the South Side, a community that has given both of us so much. We look forward to continuing our work with our neighbors and friends from thruout the city to build this center and to serve as a reminder to every child from Chicago and every visitor from around the world that their potential is limitless.”

Still to come, federal approvals for Obama Center.
