(CHICAGO) At City Hall, Mayor Emanuel is defending himself in the water scare flap.
Emanuel’s Water Department knew in June that 17% of new water-metered homes had elevated levels of lead in the water, but didn’t tell the city until this week.
Not a big deal argues the mayor because city water still meets or exceeds EPA standards, “If I thought that this was in any way a risk, I wouldn’t have it in my own home when my kids were growing up, I would do other things as mayor. The fact is we are taking unprecedented steps in the middle of a study because we think that is the responsible and the right thing to do.”
And he pledged to hand off a solution to any water issues to the next mayor.
