(CHICAGO ) It’s almost mid-term election day and voter turnout is expected to be up.
Record registration, early voting and voting by mail suggest a lot of enthusiasm, but David Orr, the retiring Cook County Clerk says it doesn’t necessarily mean record total voting.
“So the big question is whether all this surge in early voting, is it just to get it out of the way, or frankly, does it have more to do with an bigger voter turnout?, said Orr. “ Of course, we won’t know that for sure until the election is over. I would generally believe that the bar – and these are the intangibles – the buzz clearly is that we’re going to have a bigger turnout.”
But still, the educated guess is that only a little more than half of those eligible to vote will actually vote, only about 53 or 4%.
