Kim Davis, the Rowan County, KY clerk who made national headlines in 2015 for denying same-sex marriage licenses, has lost her re-election bid to a Democratic challenger.
Davis spent five days in jail after she defied a court order to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The state later changed its laws so that county clerks did not have to personally sign off on marriage licenses.
Davis lost her race to Democrat Elwood Caudill, the same man she defeated in the 2014 primary.
