Vallas vows to ‘right-size’ Chicago schools

By Bill Cameron, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO)  In the race for mayor, Paul Vallas is out with his proposal for Chicago Public Schools.

The trick for the next mayor is to run a school system that currently has 150,000 more seats than students.

Vallas, the former CPS CEO, says he’d do it by re-purposing some buildings to other uses, such as adult education.

“There are communities in this city that have more adult men unemployed than employed.”

Vallas also wants to revive his program to give pregnant teens prenatal to class room care for their babies. He says it inexpensively reduces the achievement gap.
