(CHICAGO) It’s Black Friday and that means the Illinois Secretary of State Police will be out enforcing disability parking violations in the parking lots of shopping malls.
Penalties for misusing a disability parking placard range from a six-month drivers license suspension and a $600 for the first offense on up to a $2500 fine and a license revocation for using someone else’s card or a dead person’s card.
Bill Bogdand, disability aide for Secretary of State Jesse White says drivers should know better.
“Right on every placard that’s issued by the Secretary of State’s office, it states that the placard is not transferable and that the authorized holder of the placard must be present and must enter and exit the vehicle at the time the parking privileges are being used.”
And he says another reason you should know better is that they’ve been doing this enforcement at the malls for 12 years now.
