DIY Startup Launching Worm Farm

Want to grow your own food, but don’t really have the space for the chicken coop and pigpen? A new startup says that won’t be a problem, banking on worms becoming the next food trend.

Hong Kong-based Livin Farms currently sells DIY mealworm incubator kits, with the hopes that people will start incorporating the alternative protein into dishes, rather than meat.

Founder Katharina Unger says the insects are the future as the planet will need to feed 9 billion people by 2050.

While mealworms are found in many dishes in Asia, nutritionists point out that little research is available on the safety of insects as food.
