(CHICAGO) In the race for mayor, Illinois State Comptroller Susana Mendoza has filed her nominating petitions, but with a surprise.
To survive a challenge to your petitions, you really should have three times the number needed to make sure you have enough valid signatures, but Mendoza only filed twice the number. She claims not to be worried.
“You need 12,500 good ones, right? So that’s what matters and that’s the number we were shooting for. If we had had four or five months like the other candidates, then we would have had more signatures. But I think it’s pretty impressive that we got more than 25,000 in about a three week span, so, pretty good stuff.”
Actually, Mendoza backers have been circulating her petitions for five weeks and so 25,000 signatures are unexpectedly low.
