(CHICAGO) A north suburban man is due in Skokie bond court on Thursday, in connection with four knife-related crimes.
James Collins, 63, of Evanston is accused of stabbing a dog last month and threatening to stab a woman and her cat, late last week. He has been charged with felony counts of armed robbery, aggravated battery and animal cruelty.
Evanston police say Collins was arrested on Friday after an attempted robbery in the 800 block of Church Street. Authorities say when a woman refused to hand over her purse and duffel bag, saying her cat was inside of the bag, the suspect threatened to stab her and her cat. It was witnesses who came to her rescue and called police.
This happened on the same block where, authorities say last month, Collins asked an elderly couple if he could pet their dog and instead stabbed it. The dog has since recovered.
Police say Collins is also charged in an attempted slashing of a 68-year old woman, at the Red Line Davis Street station, last Thursday. He is being held without bail.
