At least five people are dead and a suspect taken into custody following a shooting at a Florida bank.
The 21-year-old man called 911 shortly after 12:30 p.m. saying that he had fired shots inside the SunTrust Bank branch, WTSP 10 News reports.
A stretch of U.S. Highway 27 in Sebring, Florida was shut down as Highlands County SWAT, K-9 units, and firefighters responded.
Following a failed negotiation, SWAT personnel breached the building and convinced the suspect, identified as Zephen Xaver, to surrender.
Gov. Ron DeSantis tweeted that he “spoke to both Sheriff Paul Blackman and FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen regarding the tragic shooting in Sebring and offered all the support they may need. Casey and I are praying for the victims and their families.”
The FBI reports that it is also involved in the ongoing investigation.
