NBC anchor Tom Brokaw is apologizing after saying he believes that “Hispanics should work harder at assimilation”.
The comments came during an appearance on Meet The Press Sunday, where Brokaw said families should make sure their children speak English and that it takes “outreach on both sides”.
The comments drew a backlash on social media, with Democratic Sen. Joaquin Castro calling them “stunningly ignorant”.
Brokaw later apologized on Twitter, saying he felt “terrible” that his comments “offended some members of that proud culture”.
