How upset would you be if you took a five-minute cab ride and it ended up costing you nearly $900? Well, that’s exactly what happened to a couple in New Zealand.
John and Susan Barrett needed a cab to their hotel that was five minutes away and it cost them $887 in what appears to be an elaborate travel scam.
Barrett said that when he got to his hotel the meter said $10 but the driver’s hand blocked the total charge, and he wasn’t given a receipt. He didn’t see the charge until his card was declined at a grocery store, and that’s when he saw the charge.
The couple is working to dispute the charges and police are working to find the rogue taxi driver.
