Washington State has issued a state of emergency after the Center for Disease Control confirmed dozens of cases of measles, with the number rising to 35 on Monday.
Citing an “extreme public health risk that may quickly spread to other counties,” Governor Jay Inslee signed the declaration on Friday.
Under a state of emergency, Inslee is able to call on resources from within and outside the state to help combat the outbreak.
According to ABC News noting figures on the Clark County health department’s website, 31 of the cases are individuals who were not immunized against the disease, with the remaining four unverified.
