Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul just won a half-million dollar settlement in a lawsuit against a neighbor who physically attacked him.
In November of 2017, Paul was attacked outside his home by neighbor Rene Boucher, apparently after a dispute over a brush pile on Paul’s property. Paul suffered six broken ribs in the attack, and Boucher was sentenced to 30 days behind bars last June.
On Wednesday a jury awarded Paul $580,000 in damages. The Senator tweeted afterwards that the lawsuit “wasn’t about me” and was meant to “send a clear message that violence is not the answer”.
