A man who survived two nights in the near impossible conditions of a blizzard has learned that he has stage 4 kidney cancer while recovering from frostbite.
William Mendoza was driving in North Dakota when a blizzard began. Mendoza got his car stuck in a snowdrift and couldn’t call for help because his phone’s battery had died. He then had to spend two nights in his car with no heat, lights and with temperatures below zero.
A telephone repairman discovered Mendoza on day three. As he was being treated for hypothermia doctors told him that he would survive from his time in the cold but told him that they discovered that Mendoza had stage 4 kidney cancer. The doctors delivered the news on his 59th birthday!
Mendoza says he plans to fight his cancer just like he did the elements: head on.
