(CHICAGO) A federal judge is allowing the lawsuit against using part of Jackson Park for the Obama Center to proceed. Bill Cameron says it’s about a suit against city and the park district, not the Obama Center..
The issue is whether the park district can let the Obama Foundation build on Jackson Park. The judge is not ruling on that, only that the case will continue.
Congressman Chuy Garcia said it was a mistake to use parkland when he was running against Mayor Emanuel in 2015.
“There’s plenty of land on the south side, be it Michael Reese, the USX site, another site on Torrence Ave that’s clean and available. Why do we have to encroach on parkland?”
And the plaintiffs say they’ll drop their suit if the Obama Center site is moved off of parkland.
