Election officials – tomorrow night could be a long one

(CHICAGO) Election officials are saying we may not know the top two  candidates for the April 2nd runoff until March 13th when tomorrow’s results are certified.

Fourteen candidates in the expected low turnout invites very close numbers especially with 38,000 mail-in ballots that haven’t arrived yet.  Jim Allen of the Chicago Board of Elections says that may mean challenges for both mayor and aldermen.

“We’re counting and processing all the way thru the 12th of March. After that point, somebody who’s within 95% of the second place finisher in a three-way contest could file for a discovery recount and possibly pursue litigation even tho we’re gonna have to move ahead for printing and programming for early voting which presumably starts March 18th.”

And so Tuesday’s election night could last for 15 days!
