
* If lawmakers have their way, schools in North Carolina will have a much easier time staying open, changing the way they’re graded so more can pass.
* Currently, Board of Education standards require a score of 60% to skate by. But the considered bill would allow the state agency to make anything above 39% passing, allowing the schools to keep operating.
* The ranges for grading would change as well, increasing from 10% to 15%, meaning anything between 85 and 100 is good enough for an A.
* The changes wouldn’t affect how students are graded, just the schools themselves.
