An executive signed by the White House Tuesday hopes to stem the consistently high number of suicides among US veterans.
A Cabinet-level task force will develop a “roadmap” for prevention, the Associated Press reports.
The initiative utilizes state and local organizations to help raise awareness among the at-risk the population.
About 20 veterans commit suicide every day. That rate is 150% higher than the non-military serving population.
The task force is to have a plan finalized in 12 months.
