Workers making federal minimum wage could see their salaries double in the next five years. That is if House Democrats get their way.
The House Committee on Education and Labor on Wednesday advanced a bill to raise the U.S. wage minimum from $7.25 to $15 per hour by 2024.
However, before the increase can go into effect, the bill has to first be approved by the Senate, which is ruled by a Republican majority. Reflecting the Republican view on the matter, White House chief economic advisor Larry Kudlow calls the idea of raising minimum wage across the board “a terrible idea,” adding, “Idaho is different than New York.”
