A Colorado police officer is in hot water after a video surfaced showing him drawing a gun on a black man who’s picking up trash in his own yard.
In the video, which has gone viral, a Boulder police officer approaches the unidentified man and asks if he belongs on the property. Even though the man shows ID, the officer draws his weapon and calls for backup when the man refuses to put down his trash collecting tools. The man says, “You’re on my property with a gun in your hand, threatening to shoot me, because I’m picking up trash. I don’t have a weapon. This is a bucket. This is a clamp.” After other officers arrive, they determine the man isn’t a threat and leave.
In response to the video, Boulder police officials have placed the first officer on paid administration leave while an investigation is conducted, they said Wednesday.
