An off-duty corrections officer is being credited with saving the life of a woman who was stabbed multiple times in a Fresno grocery store.
Fred Moss, who works at the Chowchilla Women’s Prison, was shopping when a man ran into the store and stabbed a 64-year-old woman in the neck several times. “She was gashed kind of where her artery is on the backside and kind of where the breast bone is,” says Moss, who grabbed some rags and applied pressure to the woman’s wounds while awaiting paramedics. “It was bloody. It was all over the side of the register and on the ground and all over the front of her.”
Responding officers tracked down the unidentified assailant at a nearby apartment complex and arrested him. They’ve not yet determine what prompted the attack on the woman, who’s expected to recover.
