One of the biggest issues in the country today is prison reform.
Many of those currently occupying prisons started their crimes early in their life.
Roughly 50,000 juveniles are being held at juvenile correctional facilities.
“I absolutely believe that we can divert and rehabilitate young people, so that we won’t have so many people in the criminal justice system,” said Johnnie McDaniels with the Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center.
For many young people that have committed crimes, prison has a revolving door into adulthood.
“And if you don’t get it right at the juvenile level in the context of criminal justice, you’re never going to get it right at the adult level,” McDaniels continued.
