Preckwinkle hits Lightfoot over “dark money”

(CHICAGO)  In the race for mayor, Toni Preckwinkle is faulting Lori Lightfoot for taking $40,000 of “dark money” from a group called Change Chicago.

It’s called “dark money” because it comes from the type of organization that doesn’t have to disclosure its donors. Even though Change Chicago appears to be led by a progressive, Preckwinkle said this:

“Historically in both our state and our country, dark money has come from the most conservative, the most reactionary part of the political spectrum. It’s disturbing that someone who would describe themselves as a progressive would take dark money.”

Preckwinkle said so in the rain on the striking Chicago Symphony musicians picket line, where she also came out against Lightfoot’s idea of adding 1 or 2% to the hotel tax to create more theater programs in the neighborhoods.

“I think the fiscal challenges that we have more broadly would require any additional revenue that we would raise, so I’m not prepared to do that.”
