Google has been hit with a $1.68B (US) antitrust penalty by European Union regulators for what they say is abuse of competition in online advertising.
“Today’s decision is about how Google abused its dominance to stop websites using brokers other than the AdSense platform,” said EU competition commissioner, Margrethe Vestager, CBC reports.
Regulators say Google and parent company, Alphabet, violated EU antitrust rules by preventing their competition from advertising on sites that used Google AdSense.
The fine is the third such multi-billion dollar penalty for the tech giant by the EU.
