If your beverage of choice is tea and you like to gulp that cuppa down while it’s still pretty hot, you might want to reconsider following new research.
A study reported by the American Cancer Society found that just two cups of tea at high temps could double a person’s risk of esophageal cancer.
While the dangers of hot drinks and cancer have been known, scientists were able to give a specific temperature where problems begin: anything above 140 degrees.
It is believed that the heat damages the esophagus in a repetitive way, similar to how smoking and acid reflux does, creating a cancer risk.
