As any father would tell his daughter before she embarks on a Spring break jaunt to Fort Lauderdale, be careful of the animals on the beach. Especially when the animal is an actual animal.
Yolanda Jacobs learned this lesson the hard way when she and a group of friends encountered a man walking around Fort Lauderdale Beach with a lemur on his shoulder, accepting money from people to allow them to take photos of his pet. Jacobs paid the man, later identified as 53-year-old Alberto Marrero, to let her pose for a picture with the animal on her shoulder. The lemur bit her on the hand, breaking her skin. Making matters worse, Marrero later admitted the pet hadn’t received its rabies shots.
Jacobs was treated at a nearby hospital and released. Marrero received a total of seven misdemeanor citations.
