On Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on ‘red flag’ gun control laws, aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of the wrong people.
So-called ‘red flag’ laws have already been adopted in several states, allowing the court to take guns away from someone considered a risk to others or themselves. Often the recommendation comes from a family member or friend.
Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, who led the hearing, insisted that “Nobody is going to come and take your guns” and said it was about balancing the Second Amendment with “mental health issues”. He also preferred that states pass their own ‘red flag’ laws vs. a federal law.
