Under Shariah law, death by stoning for gay sex and adultery is now permitted in Brunei, according to authorities.
The law had been on hold for years until Wednesday – to the horror of human rights groups, Channel News Asia reports.
Brunei practices stricter Islam than neighboring Malaysia and Indonesia.
Penalties for theft have also changed. First offense is amputation of the right hand, second offense is amputation of the left foot.
According to Brunei’s AG the new penalties will take effect April 3.
