A 2-year-old St. Louis, Missouri girl is hanging on to life after what her family thought were flu symptoms turned deadly.
KMOV-TV reports Layla Thomas has been in the St. Louis Children’s Hospital pediatric ICU for going on 10 days. According to her Aunt, the child had a runny nose, and slight cough. She was rushed to the hospital after her temperature rose to 107-degrees.
Doctors have diagnosed Thomas with necrotic encephalitis, a rare complication that’s now attacking her brain. They say she has a 50-50 chance at survival.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family with medical expenses.
