A man who was released from prison 13 years ago may have to go back – because the federal government says he still owes 16 months.
Demetrius Anderson was released from state prison in 2006 after serving a multi-year term for counterfeiting and forgery. He’s lived crime-free ever since, but last week U.S. Marshals came to his home and told him he still owed a 16-month federal sentence.
Anderson says he thought his state and federal sentences were concurrent, but officials say the federal sentence was overlooked until a recent internal audit.
Anderson will appear before a judge next week and might have to return to prison. He’s filing a request asking the White House to get involved directly and commute his sentence.
